Murat Özçelik, a BAİBÜ Communication Faculty Student, Attracted Attention with the Artificial Intelligence Application He Developed Specially for His Faculty

Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ) Faculty of Communication has signed another exemplary project in the field of technology and digital transformation. Murat Özçelik, one of our faculty students, has implemented the artificial intelligence-based digital assistant “İlefbot”, which he developed entirely with his own efforts, in order to facilitate the academic processes of communication faculty students and faculty members. İlefbot was integrated into our faculty website and made available to all students and academic staff.

Digital Support for Academic Life: What is “İlefbot”?

İlefbot is an artificial intelligence-supported chat assistant designed for Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Communication students and faculty members. The application answers many questions of users regarding the academic calendar, course content, exam dates, advisor information, department announcements and student affairs within seconds. Thus, it reduces the time to access information and contributes to a more efficient academic life for users.

At the same time, İlefbot, which does not only convey information, offers content suggestions to its users and produces creative ideas for academic processes. In this respect, it stands out as an artificial intelligence solution that goes beyond classic chatbots.

Dean Prof. Dr. Emre Tandırlı: “It is a source of pride that such an application emerged from the Faculty of Communication, not the Faculty of Engineering”
Evaluating the development process of İlefbot, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Emre Tandırlı expressed their great satisfaction that their students have become producers rather than just consumers.

“Artificial intelligence is not only a technological tool today, but also at the center of new ways of thinking, business models and educational approaches. Artificial intelligence is now actively used in many areas from visual and written content production to project management in the field of communication. It is very valuable for us that our students in our faculty show interest in these technologies. However, it was a separate source of pride for us that our student developed such an application on his own initiative and with his completely individual efforts.”
Prof. Dr. Tandırlı also stated that İlefbot is currently only developed by the Faculty of Communication within the university and said the following:

“İlefbot, which we integrated into our faculty website, can be easily accessed thanks to its user-friendly interface. Visitors who click on the relevant button on our homepage can write their questions in the chat box that opens and receive detailed answers. In this way, academic bureaucracy and information access processes are significantly accelerated. The fact that such a software comes from the Faculty of Communication, not the Faculty of Engineering, is also a situation that should be appreciated.”

Developer Murat Özçelik: “My Aim Was to Produce Smart Solutions to Small Problems”

Murat Özçelik, the developer of İlefbot, explained the story of the application’s birth with the following words:

“Throughout my university life, I wanted to produce solutions to small but time-consuming problems that students frequently encounter. Even simple issues such as accessing advisor information, learning what will be covered in which course, or learning exam dates can sometimes become complicated. Therefore, I developed a system that will both speed up access to information and offer users an interactive experience by utilizing artificial intelligence.”

Murat Özçelik also emphasized that İlefbot uses modern and powerful artificial intelligence technologies in its software infrastructure and made the following statements:

“While developing İlefbot, I used up-to-date software libraries such as Gemini and Seasharp. Thanks to these libraries, a system that is both user-friendly and can respond quickly emerged. The application not only provides information, but also offers creative ideas. In this respect, it stands out from classic automatic responses. All students and academics of the Faculty of Communication can use it with peace of mind.”

An Innovative Step Developed with the Vision of the Century of Turkey

İlefbot constitutes an important example in terms of encouraging projects developed with student initiatives in universities in line with Türkiye's digitalization goals. One of the cornerstones of the "Century of Turkey" vision, the goal of domestic technology production and the competence of young people in this field, comes to life at the Faculty of Communication of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University.
It is also planned to develop the application with new features and adapt it to different academic units in the future. In this context, Ilefbot aims to become a symbol of student-centered production and technological entrepreneurship, beyond being just a digital tool.
