Design and Artificial Intelligence Meet in the 3rd Session of the 2nd Day of BAİBÜİLEF-İG 2025

On the second day of the 2nd International Artificial Intelligence and Hypermedia Symposium hosted by the Faculty of Communication of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ), a session titled “Artificial Intelligence in Design” was held. The session, which took place in the Z-114 hall of the Faculty of Communication, was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Taragay Ayçe.

The first presentation of the session was made by Res. Asst. Dr. Şeyma Nâlân Ekice. In her presentation titled “Transformation of Instrumental Use in Art and Design with ‘GAN’ Network Architecture”, the relationship between artificial intelligence and evolutionary biology, ‘GAN’ architecture and the effects of this technology on art and design were discussed. Ekice also shared some free and paid artificial intelligence tools with the participants.

In the second presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Taragay Ayçe and Dr. Orhan Sevindik presented their work titled “A Look from the Inside: Reflections of Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Graphic Design through the Eyes of a Graphic Designer”. The presentation evaluated graphic designers’ perspectives on artificial intelligence and the place of this technology in the sector. Ayçe emphasized the domestic technology with the statement, “Turkey should produce its own national artificial intelligence.”

The third presentation was made by Dr. Lecturer Elif Sabancı Polat. The presentation titled “Typography Production and Experimental Use with Artificial Intelligence: Algorithmic Aesthetics and Reconstruction of Visual Meaning” focused on artificial intelligence applications in typography design, the concept of algorithmic aesthetics and the transformation of visual meaning.

Fourthly, Dr. Lecturer Mehmet Ümit Meterelliyöz and Res. Asst. Müge Meterelliyöz made their presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence Integration in Architectural Education: Student Experiences and Pedagogical Approaches.” The historical process of computer-aided design, architectural visualization with artificial intelligence, studio productions and pedagogical transformations were discussed.

The fifth presentation was made by Res. Asst. Halima Jumoke Abdulwahab and Res. Asst. Adepeju Grace Oshın discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on the concept of originality in graphic design with their presentation titled “We are all Professional Designers: The Impact of AI on the Originality of Graphic Design”.

The last presentation of the session was made by Prof. Dr. Aşkın İnci Sökmen and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Taragay Ayçe. The presentation titled “Combining Cultures with Artificial Intelligence” evaluated the role of artificial intelligence in intercultural communication, solutions developed against language barriers and global communication opportunities.

The program ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers by Prof. Dr. Emre Tandırlı, Dean of BAİBÜ Faculty of Communication, following the Q&A session.
