Artificial Intelligence in Journalism was discussed in the 11th session of the 2nd day of BAİBÜİLEF-İG 2025

BAİBÜ Faculty of Communication Hosts International Symposium: Artificial Intelligence and Journalism Meet

Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ) Faculty of Communication successfully hosted the second International Artificial Intelligence and Hypermedia Symposium this year. The event addressed all aspects of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in journalism. The session was moderated by BAİBÜ Faculty of Communication Journalism Department Head Prof. Dr. Selami Özsoy.

The first presentation of the symposium was made by Dr. Emine Sırmalı Kayacan, who recently completed her doctoral thesis and is experiencing her first academic symposium. In her presentation titled “Language and Intonation Analysis in Artificial Intelligence-Assisted News Writing”, she evaluated the impact of artificial intelligence tools on news language in the light of current data analyses. The young academician’s presentation received great interest, especially from students.

Another remarkable presentation was by Res. Asst. Mehmet Günesen and Assoc. Rengim Sine Nazlı signed. With their study titled “A Study on the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Guidelines of News Organizations”, they discussed the importance of ethical codes in the context of the use of artificial intelligence in the media. BAİBÜ Faculty of Communication Journalism Department Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rengim Sine Nazlı and Istanbul University Res. Asst. Mehmet Günesen shared their comprehensive analysis with the participants.

Journalism graduate student Berfu Bayav Oflaz took the stage for the first time at the symposium with her presentation titled “Deepfake Technology and Disinformation: Journalism Ethics”. Oflaz drew attention to the ethical issues facing today’s media.

The closing presentation of the symposium belonged to Edanur Yıldız, another BAİBÜ graduate student. With her study titled “Perception of Beauty in Internet Journalism”, she made striking observations on perception management and aesthetic understanding in digital media.

Participants who took the floor at the end of the event thanked the BAİBÜ Faculty of Communication for hosting such a qualified academic platform, the faculty administration and all academic and administrative staff who contributed, and stated that the symposium provided an important opportunity for their professional and scientific development.

At the end of the program, certificates of appreciation were presented to all participants by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rengim Sine Nazlı and Prof. Dr. Selami Özsoy.
