The 2nd International Artificial Intelligence and Hypermedia Symposium, organized by Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Communication within the scope of “Communication Days 2025” events, was successfully held in a hybrid format, face-to-face and online, between May 21–23, 2025. The symposium addressed the fields of communication, media and technology with an interdisciplinary approach and provided a platform for discussion of the transformative effects of the digital age.
The symposium, which was attended by 135 academics from 6 different countries, covered many current topics from the effects of artificial intelligence on the media to ethical issues, from hypermedia narrative techniques to digital identity formations, and was discussed by experts in the field for three days.
Featured Thematic Areas in the Symposium
The papers presented during the symposium offered a rich perspective on contemporary communication problems. Some of the themes that stand out in the declarations can be summarized as follows:
Artificial intelligence-supported content production has revealed the transformation in many areas, from journalism to cinema, from advertising to social media use.
The impact of content on digital platforms on user behavior was addressed from the perspective of data privacy and ethical responsibilities.
Participants shared their research focusing on the evolution of visual culture, new forms of expression in digital media, and digital identity formation.
The role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies was discussed in the field of communication education; suggestions were made for the curriculum, especially on digital and artificial intelligence literacy.
Thanks to the international participant profile of the symposium, the papers presented by academics from different countries were compared with global perspectives and opened to discussion.
Recommendations and Evaluations in the Final Declaration
The final declaration published at the end of the symposium includes suggestions that will shed light on academic and social developments in the field of artificial intelligence and hypermedia. The following headings were highlighted in the declaration:
It was emphasized that interdisciplinary studies on the relationship between artificial intelligence and media should be increased.
It was suggested that existing ethical guidelines should be restructured to include artificial intelligence applications.
It was stated that communication education should be updated and artificial intelligence literacy should be integrated into teaching programs.
The importance of supporting hypermedia narrative techniques in both academic research and sectoral applications was emphasized.
It was stated that the balance between human labor and artificial intelligence should be maintained in media content, and if there is any use of artificial intelligence in content production, this should be stated transparently.
