The Department of Journalism at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University's Faculty of Communication held an orientation program for new students on September 30, 2025.
Speaking at the opening of the program, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Emre Tandırlı, highlighted the current war environment worldwide and emphasized the importance of students being conscientious individuals who embrace the principle of goodness, emphasizing the importance of being "good people" first and foremost. Tandırlı stated that this should continue to develop their professional skills and work diligently.
Associate Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşah Sarı, welcomed the first-year students and provided information about the course structure. Department Head, Prof. Dr. Selami Özsoy, highlighted the oppression and massacre in Gaza, emphasizing the need for students to be aware of the realities and contribute to the homeland, nation, and humanity. Prof. Dr. Özsoy also spoke about the values the late İzzet Baysal brought to Bolu and provided a comprehensive introduction to the university and campus.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ekin Kadir Selçuk emphasized the importance of extensive reading and the excellent library we offer. She stated that it's essential to take advantage of this library. Instructor Bahar Akbulak also stated that students can acquire all the visual design equipment required by the industry in Graphics and Design-focused courses.
As part of the program, Dr. Tuğçe İyigüngör shared a presentation detailing the Faculty of Communication and the Department of Journalism. Faculty Secretary Hayrettin Karataş emphasized the importance of education and training regulations, stating that the processes are conducted within this framework. Finally, student representative Sıla Erdoğan provided practical information about the UBYS (Student Information System). She demonstrated examples of operations using the system for those who were curious. Detailed information was provided on all the topics of interest to our first-year Journalism students.
