Students of the Journalism Department of the Faculty of Communication at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ) hosted Tarık Aksoy from the TEMA Foundation's Bolu Provincial Representative Office as part of their "Environmental and Health Journalism" course. The event addressed the importance of environmental journalism in raising public awareness, and the students gained comprehensive information about local environmental issues.

An Awareness-Focused Meeting in the Environmental Journalism Course

The event, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rengim Sine Nazlı, highlighted the social responsibility dimension of environmentally responsible journalism. Tarık Aksoy discussed the TEMA Foundation's environmental protection, erosion control, and afforestation activities across Turkey, and shared the foundation's projects that contribute to sustainable nature awareness.

In his speech, Aksoy highlighted the role of local media in making environmental issues visible. Aksoy, who provided examples of environmental threats in Bolu and its surrounding areas, emphasized the impacts of forest destruction, water pollution, and unplanned urban development on nature.

He stated, "Local media is responsible not only for producing news but also for raising awareness in its environment. Protecting nature is our shared duty."

The TEMA Foundation's Work Inspired Students

Following the presentation, Aksoy explained the TEMA Foundation's volunteer-based structure and emphasized the importance of young people's participation in environmental protection efforts. He stated that developing university students as environmentally conscious individuals and responsible journalists is one of the most valuable investments they can make in the future.

Participants noted that the projects carried out by the TEMA Foundation not only protect nature but also strengthen social solidarity. Students posed questions about the importance of accessing accurate information, utilizing expert opinions, and presenting real-world situations in environmentally themed news.

Concluded with the Presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation

At the end of the lecture, Assoc. Prof. Dr. My Color Sine Nazlı presented Tarık Aksoy with a certificate of appreciation for his valuable presentation, which contributed to environmental awareness. Nazlı emphasized that the primary goal of the environmental and health journalism course is to develop students' understanding of nature- and people-centered journalism, saying, "Every environmental news story is, in fact, a mark left on the future. We value instilling this awareness in our students."

The event concluded with a productive classroom environment that fostered students' awareness of environmental journalism. The students stated that the information they acquired significantly contributed not only to their academic pursuits but also to their social responsibility.
