As part of the International Awareness Seminars Against Violence Against Women, Psychologist Seçil Öztürk, a trainer at the Center for Preventing and Monitoring Violence Against Women (CVW), affiliated with the Bolu Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, met with students from the Faculty of Communication.

The seminar shared technical information and field findings on the social roots of violence against women, its relationship with cultural patterns, its psychological effects, and current methods of combating it. Öztürk emphasized that violence is not solely individual but a multi-layered problem shaped by social, economic, and cultural dynamics. Participants learned in detail about prevention strategies implemented within the framework of both national policies and international standards.

In the opening remarks of the event, Prof. Dr. Emre Tandırlı, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, examined the significance that Anatolia has attributed to women throughout its long history from an enthographic perspective. Tandırlı stated that, since the cults of Cybele and Artemis, Anatolia has viewed women as central elements of fertility, the life cycle, social stability, and cultural continuity. He emphasized that this cultural approach has been preserved throughout the period from the Seljuk and Ottoman periods to the Republic of Turkey, highlighting the sociological and cultural dimensions of the value Turkish society places on women.

Prof. Dr. Tandırlı stated that this historical legacy serves as an important reference point for both gender equality and violence prevention policies today.

At the end of the event, students continued the seminar interactively by asking questions about combating violence, the functioning of support mechanisms, and how awareness-based communication campaigns are created.
