The final session of the "International Awareness Seminars Against Violence Against Women," organized by the Faculty of Communication at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University, was hosted by the Journalism Department, attracting a large turnout. The seminar, which aims to raise public awareness about combating violence, attracted a wide range of participants, from students to academics.
ŞöNİM (Social Security Institutions of Turkey) Trainer and Psychologist Seçil Öztürk, a speaker at the event, shared a multifaceted awareness-raising discussion with the students. Öztürk addressed critical topics such as healthy communication, gender, the representation and discourse of women in the media, and the psychological roots of violence, assessing the various dimensions of violence against women with scientific data and case studies. The presentation, which proceeded in an interactive atmosphere with the active participation of the students, contributed to raising awareness and sensitivity on the issue.
Dr. Ayşe Aldemir, a distinguished academic from the Journalism Department, also attended the seminar and supported the event. The quality of the exchanges with the students and the department's academic approach to the subject further enhanced the seminar's impact.
The opening remarks of the program were delivered by Professor Emre Tandırlı, Dean of the Faculty of Communication. In his speech, Tandırlı referenced the famous slapping incident at the Oscars, a frequent topic of discussion in recent popular culture, stating, "The importance of anger management in heightened moments offers a vital indicator not only of individual but also of social relationships." He emphasized the universal dimension of this topic. This example was met with great interest by the participants.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers and a group photo. The students' intense interest and active participation ensured that the event was highly productive, both academically and socially.
It was emphasized that the Faculty of Communication will continue to hold such events, which aim to raise awareness about combating violence against women, in the coming periods.
