Our University's 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held with the presence of Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum. The first lecture of the new academic year was given by Former President of Religious Affairs and President of the Institute of Islamic Thought Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez.

The opening ceremony held in the Congress Center Bordo Hall began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydın, Bolu Deputies Yüksel Coşkunyürek and Türker Ateş, Kocaeli Deputies Prof. Dr. Sadettin Hülagü, Brigade and Garrison Deputy Commander Tank Commando Colonel Cavit Nartop, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, Düzce Mayor Faruk Özlü, Chief Public Prosecutor İbrahim Cansever, Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University President Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alişarlı, Bartın University President Prof. Dr. Orhan Uzun, Düzce University President Prof. Dr. Nedim Sözbir and Ordu University President Prof. Dr. Orhan Baş, Former Minister of Health and Tourism Bülent Akarcalı, University Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Samettin Gündüz, Prof. Dr. Aydın Him and Prof. Dr. Coşkun Karaca, Secretary General İhsan Ağcan, Provincial Police Chief Cemal Dalman, Provincial Gendarmerie Deputy Commander Gen. Col. Abdulkadir Eren, İzzet Baysal Foundation members, provincial and district mayors, provincial directors, political party representatives, representatives of civil society organizations, deans, department heads, academic and administrative staff and students attended the ceremony.
Our university's promotional film was shown at the ceremony. Faculty of Fine Arts Music Department Academic Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can Doğan and his team presented a musical recital.
Ahmet Baysal's letter was read
The letter sent by Ahmet Baysal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the İzzet Baysal Foundation, for the opening of the academic year was read by Deputy Chairman Fatih Yamaner. In his message, Baysal summarized as follows: “Mr. Minister, İzzet Baysal Foundation is always by the side of the state and at the service of its people. As it is known, Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University is the first state university supported by a foundation. One of the most important characteristics of İzzet Baysal Foundation is that it is dedicated to the people of a city. İzzet Baysal Foundation is not a foundation based on donations. My uncle İzzet Baysal was honored with the State Outstanding Service Medal and the State Outstanding Service Award for the foundation he founded. When that great man was asked, ‘What is the greatest award for you among all the awards?’ he said, ‘The love I feel in the eyes of our people and our youth is worth all of them.’” In his letter, Ahmet Baysal provided information about the works completed by the foundation and delivered to the state in the last 5 years and congratulated our University for the new academic year and wished it success.

The opening speech of the 2024-2025 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was made by our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Alişarlı. Emphasizing that Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University is one of the most important symbols of Bolu in state-nation solidarity and cooperation, Rector Alişarlı said, “We have been working with all our might since September 2017, when we took office with the approval of our President, to carry this valuable legacy that İzzet Baysal, whom we remember with mercy today, left to Bolu, even further by taking as our guide his love for our youth, the guarantee of our future, and for education; With the power it receives from philanthropists devoted to education and the devoted efforts of its academic and administrative staff, we are making our university, which has an exceptional place in the country's higher education, ready for the Turkish Century." he said.
"We are carrying out studies targeting the ideal of a Fully Independent Turkey."
Rector Alişarlı, who touched upon the increase in the number of our national and international students and the number of academic and administrative staff and academic studies in his speech, briefly said, "Between the years 2017-2024, when we took office, 450 scientific research projects, 129 TÜBİTAK projects, 9 European Union projects, 3 BRAND development projects, 5 Turkish Health Institutes Presidency projects and 8 Ministry of Youth and Sports projects were carried out at our University. Our academics, whose awards we will be presenting in a moment, have presented a budget figure of 71 million liras with 9 high-budget external resource projects in the last year." and he said, "The institutions that will make the greatest contribution to our President's vision of the Turkish Century are undoubtedly universities. With this awareness, we are carrying out studies that target the ideal of ‘Fully Independent Turkey’ in every aspect with projects that are based on efficiency and increase competitive power. We continue to act with a dynamic and flexible management approach that is suitable for international competition conditions in order to improve the quality in higher education in terms of both quality and quantity.”
